אינני פריקית של סוכר. לא ביליתי את ילדותי מייחלת לטופי ומרשמלו, בימי הולדת לא דחפתי את אצבעותיי מלאות החיידקים לקערות עדשים ודובוני גומי. גלידת שוקולד לא עושה לי את זה, אני מעדיפה סורבה. אם אתם באמת רוצים לפנק אותי קנו לי בורקס (תרד או פטריות).
כבת לשף פטיסייר, נאלצתי להרגיל את החך שלי למתוקים. ולא סתם מתוקים, הו לא! במשך 9 חודשים ארוכים בהם למדה אמא ב"קורדון בלו" הדקדקן (אותו אחד מג'ולי וג'וליה) הפך החך המלוח שלי לבקרת איכות לקינוחים. יום אחר יום חזרתי מבית הספר וגיליתי עוגת מוס, מאפה או פרלין (תלוי בסמסטר) ואמי תולה בי מבט מתחנן ומחכה שאבלע ואתן את גזר הדין.
ומאז אותה שנה, גורלי נחרץ - הסוכר בכל מקום. אתמול זה פאי שוקולד מריר, היום כבר מרנג לימון. לא תמיד יש סיבה אבל תמיד יש משהו מתוק על השיש. שבועות בלי אפייה הפכו נדירים ומכאן הדרך למטה ידועה: הנסיון לחזור אחורנית אבוד - הגוף רוצה סוכר. לא סוכר קנים ולא דמררה אל תעבדו עליי, תנו לי סוכר לבן! תנו לי!
I'm not a sugar freak. I didn't spend my childhood craving for Toffy or Gummy bears. Chocolate Ice cream isn't that tempting, I'd rather take Sorbet. If you realy want to please me - buy me a Pretzel.
As a daughter of a Pastry Chef, I had to accomodate my palate to sweets. But not just any sweets oh no! for 9 long months when my mom learned at the pedant "Cordon Bleu", I had to be the quality control of everything she made. Day after day I came back from school only to find a cake, a pastry or a perlin (depending on the Semester). From that year on my fate was determined, there was sugar everywhere .
Yesterday a Chocolate pie and today a lemon meringue. Weeks without baking became so rare and from that point the way down the hill is well known: can't go back, the body wants sugar. Not that cane sugar nor Demerara. Don't try to fool me, give me pure white sugar! give it now!
